In 2024, I came up with the idea of a dedicated digital magazine to document the construction of the FORUM UZH on film over several years. This laid the conceptual groundwork for forum-uzh.ch. Since then, I have worked with Raffinerie AG and Felix Tanner to develop the format further, structure its content and refine its design.

Over several years, the digital magazine follows the construction of the FORUM UZH, making this landmark building project accessible as it unfolds – both as a record of its time and as an online cinema. Short documentary films are at its heart, accompanied by interviews, photo stories and in-depth articles. Rather than a static project website, it is an ongoing editorial publication: it documents progress and the stories behind the construction, gives the people involved a voice and creates an archive of the University of Zurich’s new main building as it takes shape.

The FORUM UZH project website, designed as an online cinema.

Two photographic perspectives on FORUM UZH: All photographs in this documentation are by Sophie Stieger and Reto Cortesi.

In summer 2026, the excavation pit is around 28 metres deep. It will eventually hold a foundation slab covering several thousand square metres.

At this scale, even construction professionals look like miniature figures.

Even on a vast construction site, some decisions are made in a small huddle.

Hard work, warm-hearted people. A tribute to those who, in all weathers, amid noise, dust and dirt, are laying the foundations for the FORUM UZH.
